MARY JANE BLUM will be back with delicious cinnamon rolls, breads, and other treats from FRENCH OVEN BAKERY.
LOS TACOS was a huge hit last weekend! The lunch rush started early and didn’t stop until after the market closed! Follow Los Tacos on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Los-Tacos-Alaska/140320525998680.
PINKY’S KETTLE CORN will be filling the air with the sweet smell of kettle corn.
A-MAE-ZING NATURAL TREATS is joining the SAFM! You may have seen Mae’s and her husband’s gluten-, dairy-, and soy-free Cacao (chocolate) Coconut Truffles at Natural Pantry, New Sagaya Midtown, L’aroma Southside, Cafe Europa, and Dark Horse. These truffles are made with all natural ingredients and no added sugar. They’re a great alternative for those who are a little bit more health conscious but still like to indulge in a sweet treat. Kids love them, too! Truffles are sold three to a bag. Mae is also working on a Cacao Peanut Butter bar, her version of a Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, which she hopes to have ready for next weekend’s market. Make sure to try some!
BERBS JUICE, JELLY, AND JAM will have homemade jams and jellies, local honey, and delicious sweet-smelling bees wax again this week. They will also have candy made with Alaska-grown berries and rhubarb.

PLANTS
——————————
Get your garden going with your favorite produce from the South Anchorage Farmers’ Market!
- - - - - - - - - - - -
EARTHWORKS FARM will be coming to market with forced tulips, potted and in the vase or for take home as is. All stems are on the bulb, so you can plant them up after you’ve enjoyed the spring show and see them again next year!
THE BLUE POPPY will have blue poppy flower plants.
HEART OF THE MOUNTAIN ORGANICS will be at the market with their beautiful and healthy vegetable and herb starter plants. It is still cold with some snow in the mountains, but it is warm and sunny in the greenhouses. Begin your continuous harvest early this year with these happy, strong plant starts. Get an early start on your home gardens! These plants are also perfect for containers that can be brought inside on a cold night. Here is a list of what they will be bringing this week—and remember the early bird gets the worm, so come early if you want cilantro, dill, and arugala plants!
VEGGIES:
Lettuces—Red and green varieties for continuous harvest and a beautiful garden
Arugula—Lush pots for tonight’s fresh green salads
Cilantro and Dill—Pots for continuous harvest
Spearmint—Large, 1-gallon pots ready to use now. Mojito’s were a common topic of our conversation last year!
Tomatoes—2 varieties
- Succulent, sweet Cherokee Purple variety (heirloom)
- Fast-growing Cherry variety
Kale—3 or 4 vigorous varieties
Collards—Fast-growing, dark green greens
Brussells Sprouts—Also great green leaves!
Celery—Utah tall variety
Rainbow Chard—Red and Yellow stalks
PERENNIAL PLANTS/SHRUBS:

Black Currant Bushes
GRAY OWL FARM will be at the market with their selection of unique and innovative hanging baskets. Their baskets and containers have a reputation, with proper maintenance, of being just as beautiful in September as they were when you put them out in the spring! If you like to create your own baskets or are planning your spring flower beds, they will have a nice variety of 4” pot annuals, including many unusual selections with bright colors and textures that you won’t find in other greenhouses. Stop by and check out new plants for 2012 and start planning for a warm and wonderful summer!
